The Weekend That Was

The Fairy insisted on writing out all 20 of her birthday invitations herself.
As time went on it was all about just getting them distributed for me.
So on Saturday at 1.50pm when I was having 10 mins sit down
before putting a frock on and gathering my thoughts and waiting for painkillers
to kick in (against migraine) for a 2.30pm start,
I was floored when guests started arriving for a 2pm start.
I had a bit of moment ... for just a moment.
Luckily my wonderful sister-in-law was already up from Victoria
for the Confirmation the following day.
As I changed and doused my face with cold water,
she ushered all the early birds outside for a Cats' Cradle session.
I came out to find 15 girls concentrating hard on making a Witch's Hat.
Just beautiful.
Who knew pieces of string could be so all consuming.
As the 2.30's started arriving they all joined in and we had to drag them
to the tables to make some tea cup biscuits.
There was Who Am I
and team races in park.
The girls were all just joyful and it was magical and precious.
Being migraine bound since Friday the cake was not what I had planned.
I saw this cake on someone's blog a few weeks ago and apologies
because I now cannot remember whose.
At the time I thought how simple and lovely.
And it was.
Bringing lots of Ooooos and Aaaahhhs from the party crowd.
A great day for
Miss Eight.

How was your weekend?

Fun & Games

Good old fashioned party games.
Just a taste of the fun.

The tootsies in the water is
a competition to get as many marbles in your team bucket,
picking them out with your toes,
in a minute.

I've been having a bit of fun myself
with Picnik,
introduced to me by m.e.

Party & Cupcakes

THE party was a raging success.
Above is one of the towering cupcakes created.
There was a lot of icing.  A lot of debris.
A lot of laughter, noise and screaming.
There was a lot of F.U.N.
which makes it all worth it.

.
It's party frenzy here today.
Just boiling up two huge pots for cooking spaghetti.
Miss O has requested her guests play
finding the plastic snake in the bucket of spaghetti game.
Her brother had this at his last party.
I have bought novelty bracelets and rings for them to fish out.
There will be a bucket of warm soapy water on hand
for rinsing off little girls and jewellery.
A batch of cupcakes has just gone in the oven
for the decorating your own cupcake table.
Miss O doesn't ask for a much!!!

Next on the list:
wrap the pass the parcel
visit neighbours and ask to borrow garden furniture (we are already borrowing a carport)
labels for water bottles
cover strawberries in chocolate
make up jelly cups
finish doilie garlands
get 12 year old son to make up playlist for ipod
Make a list for morning chores

Phew!
Have good weekends everybody

Event Planning

The event of the year is fast approaching.
Miss O celebrates her 7th birthday next week.
The party is on Saturday.
Guess what I'm spending the next two days doing.
This year she has 18 guests, I'm not sure how that happened.
I thought we had sent out 12 invites, but apparently not.
A trip to the $2 shop in the morning to get extra packs of party favours.

Red Shoes and Parties

Here's Miss O, resplendent in her party glory. Saturday was a back to back party day. Saturday evening bedtime was a disaster. Red shoes are amongst my most favourite of things. I used to dream of red shoes as a child, waking up disappointed once I realised they were not in my waking world. The red shoes on the cover of Tessa Kiros' Apples for Jam were more than I could walk past, without purchasing a copy.

The dress was a Christmas present from my Dad when he visited at Christmas. I love her in it. The shoes were also a present from my Dad when we visited London. He took her to Bally. I suggested he might take me to Bally for a pair of flats too. We ended up in Primark. I do possess the cutest pair of black flats and faux fur mini swing jacket to die for, from that little trip. I am waiting patiently for a touch of winter in Sydney to wear it.
